History

TURN Community Services was founded in 1973 by parents of children with disabilities who were seeking community alternatives to institutionalization. In 1974, TURN incorporated as a Utah nonprofit to support persons with disabilities of all ages to live, work, and play within their communities.

In 2001, Iron Parke Corporation, a Cedar City nonprofit since 1984, merged with TURN followed in 2002 by the programs of the Washington County ARC. These mergers brought in nearly 200 staff and clients to the TURN family. In 2008, Tri Connections of Utah County merged with TURN bringing in additional staff and clients. In 2009, TURN opened TURN Secure Shredding in Cedar city, to employ people with disabilities who, under the State Use Law, perform secure document destruction and recycling for all state offices. In 2011, TURN merged with Salt Lake Advocacy and Community Training (formly the Arc of Salt Lake) to expand our community outreach programs.

Today, TURN supports 615 clients in Kane, Washington, Iron, Garfield, Beaver, Sevier, Utah, Salt Lake, Weber, Davis, and Box Elder counties.
