Family Support/Respite
Family Support
TURN supports people of all ages with disabilities who live in the community or in their family homes. We help each family develop a long-term plan based on the family’s present needs and future goals. Through family support services, people with disabilities, their parents, siblings, and neighbors, learn new approaches and strategies to foster independence. The kinds of supports offered are flexible and family-driven.
Respite
Respite care provides families with temporary relief from the day-to-day challenges of supporting a relative with disabilities at home. Respite can be provided for varying amounts of time, ranging from a few hours to several days. It can be provided in the family’s home, the home of a respite provider, a summer program, or one of TURN’s Community Centers.
Summer Camp respite is offered in Utah and Salt Lake Counties from June to Aug to eligible school-age participants.

Mitch Vosburg has been attending TURN day programs since 1986. When he had to go into a care center in 2009, he missed his friends at the day program that he had treasured for so many years. So, later that year, he was able to come back to the Woods Cross day program part-time.
Mitch loves holding onto hair scrunches and a deck of cards that he plays with. He enjoys Special Olympic bowling and track and field, but he cannot participate in the actual track and field games because of the heat. However, he enjoys practicing when there is cooler weather. Mitch loves being with his friends at the day program, participating in the activities, and going out in the community. He does not speak but he communicates his joy through a big smile on his face!
