Sometimes the best help we can give is seeing and

Sometimes the best help we can give is seeing and being with each other.

September 12th is the United Way Day of Caring. They graciously match non-profit organizations with business partners to further their cause. More than 20 years ago, TURNDreams was matched with WCF Insurance.

When asked what they could do to help us, it was decided that the best thing they could do was spend time with us having fun. The people we served love a good party and enjoy friendship. Bringing new people into their lives who see them and celebrate their capacity has been a wonderful contribution.

The WCF picnic is a much anticipated event year after year. The food, fun and games and great—the big deal is the way it facilitates friendship and connection.

Being together is powerful. The volunteers who choose to spend time with us are valued friends who make such an impression as they choose to look past stigma and stereotypes and connect in meaningful ways. Their names are mentioned in our groups throughout the year and we look forward to seeing each other again next year.

It may seem like a simple give, or too fun or fluffy, but it means everything to us.
